The highest peak in Maharashtra is located at a height of 5400 ft. which has steep inclined rocky pathways and rugged terrain making it an exhilarating and exhausting trek.  On the top of the mountain, an old Kalsubai temple is located inspiring to name this trek as Kalsubai Trek and people from the nearby villages go there to take blessings of Devi Kalsubai.

The Kalsubai trek offers great views and is the perfect combination of waterfalls, forests, grasslands, and historic forts making it the most fascinating trek.

Aside from that, Kalsubai Trekking also gives views of many breathtaking forts like Alanag, Madan, and Kulang which are pretty challenging to trek in. You can also explore Naneghat Trekking in place of Kalsubai Trek.

Best Time To Visit Kalsubai

During winter, it is extremely cold throughout the morning, and summers see intense heat till early evening. So, it is advisable to take up the trek around dawn, or even better, summit during the monsoon season to experience pleasant weather conditions that won’t hinder your movement.

Trek Route

The trek from Bari to Kalsubai Peak is well-marked and divided into several divisions:

Division 1: Bari to the Temple (Base)

  • Duration: 1 to 1.5 hours
  • Terrain: Gentle ascent through fields and small streams.

Division 2: Temple to the Midway Point

  • Duration: 1 hour
  • Terrain: Steeper ascents with rocky patches and some ladders.

Division 3: Midway Point to the Summit

  • Duration: 1 to 1.5 hours
  • Terrain: Steep and challenging with iron ladders fixed to vertical rock faces.

Best Time to Trek at Kalsubai

  • Monsoon (June to September): Lush green landscapes and waterfalls, but trails can be slippery.
  • Winter (October to February): Clear skies and pleasant weather, ideal for trekking.
  • Summer (March to May): Hot and dry, less recommended.

How to Reach Kalsubai Trek?

The base of these camps starts from the Bari village in the Ahmad Nagar district. To arrive here Kasar Railway station is the nearest railway station from where you can opt for a local jeep to reach Bari. The starting point of your Trek is the Hanuman Temple in Bari where you have to cross a stream before Ascending your trek.

Monsoon is the best season to go for it, but don’t forget to wear good ankle-length waterproof boots before beginning your trek.

Bar village has a lot of farming land that you have to walk during the initial trekking and make your trip truly pleasant.

The routes of Kalsubai trekking are well marked, eliminating the chances of losing your way.

As you start climbing, the journey becomes difficult due to plateaus and gushing streams. The trekking way is very steep, and the slopes exist at the end of your trekking. To reach the final summit, iron ladders are placed in the way that you can to finish your trekking and reach the top where the Kalsubai temple is situated.
